7 Statements Jesus Made about Who He Is

The following “I am” statements from the Gospels give us a good start to answering the question, “Who is Jesus?” When Moses encounters a burning bush in the desert, he approaches and calls God. A conversation begins between the two, and Moses asks an important question: “What is your name?”

Moses grew up in Egypt, and the gods of Egypt each had a name. A name can tell us a lot when talking to the gods. Which God was Moses talking to?

God answers with a simple sentence: “I am”. Neither the god of the sky nor the god of the seas. But someone who really exists. God above all.

The Israelites used this name for God in the Hebrew language, which means “Jehovah”.

A few thousand years later, the Son of God appears on earth, fully human and fully divine. Jesus also introduces himself several times and tells us who he is.
