Who is Mordecai in the Bible?

Mordecai is a character mentioned in the Bible, specifically in the book of Esther. He is known as the cousin and guardian of Esther, the Jewish queen of Iran. Mordecai plays an important role in the story as he advises Esther to hide her Jewish identity and later encourages her to go before King Xerxes and intercede on behalf of the Jewish people.

The book of Esther tells how Mordecai’s actions thwarted a plan designed by Haman, a high official of the Persian Empire, to destroy the Jewish people. Mordecai’s courage and wisdom helped save the Jewish community, and these events are commemorated in Jewish tradition during the Purim holiday.

Mordecai was angered by Haman for refusing to bow to him.
Haman wanted revenge not only on Mordecai, but on the entire Jewish community and plotted to destroy them.
Esther, who was his uncle, was the queen of King Xerxes, but kept her Jewish identity a secret.
Mordecai asked Esther to intervene before the king and defend the Jewish people, even at the risk of her own life.
With Esther’s bravery and eloquence, Haman’s plot was exposed and he was hanged.
The king gave Mordecai a high position and the Jews were saved.
Purim is celebrated to commemorate this rescue and bravery of Mordecai and Esther.

Mordecai is first introduced in the book of Esther. He is Esther’s uncle, a woman who, along with Queen Vashti, is against the cruel demands of Asharoosh’s wives. Mordecai played an important role in saving the state of Judah from destruction by Haiman, one of Ashaurosh’s ministers.
