The phrase “I am” Jesus Christ had a special meaning for the Jews and it was the same word that was heard in God’s meeting with Moses. This phrase was a reminder of the power, majesty, authority and glory of the true living God, Jehovah, for the Jews, and also the Jewish neighbors had seen the miracles of this great God throughout the history of Israel.
Now, when Christ used this phrase to introduce himself, it was strange for the Jews who did not understand his character and mission, but for those who believed in him, it was a sign of the manifestation of God’s glory on earth, every Some of his disciples realized this great truth after his crucifixion and resurrection, but even today for those who believe in his name, declaring this phrase is a strong seal on the truth of their faith that God is embodied in Jesus Christ.
