What Does it Mean to Celebrate Earth Day From a Christian Perspective?

Celebrating Earth Day from a Christian perspective: Every year in April, we celebrate Earth Day, the place we all call home. We all have different views and opinions on different topics, but we can all agree that the planet we live on is a precious gift. As God’s children, we have an important role and responsibility to take care of the planet that He has given us as a gift. So what does it mean to celebrate Earth Day from a Christian perspective?

Heaven’s Orders on Earth Day from a Christian Perspective

God is the creator of all that has been, is, and will be, and from the very beginning of the universe it is abundantly clear that He intended to make the earth a beautiful place. When God created man, he first placed him in the Garden of Eden. In Hebrew, the word “Eden” means “pleasure”. There is no coincidence here, for Eden was a perfect world. This garden was full of green plants, animals that lived in peace and had pure and untainted pleasure. God created the first man, Adam, from the soil of Eden and breathed his spirit (Ruach) into him so that man could live. We are told in the book of Genesis chapter 1, verses 26 to 28: “And God said: ‘Let us make man in our image and after our likeness.’ And let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over all the beasts of the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ created. And God blessed them and God said to them: ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every animal that moves on the earth.'”

How to take care of the earth?

As ambassadors of God’s kingdom here on earth, we have a greater responsibility to steward and conquer the earth. Because not only do we live in this place, but we also represent Christ in our lives. The Bible describes how to work with the soil for its highest productivity in Leviticus 25:2-5: “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter the land that I am giving you, the land will be a Sabbath to the Lord. had Plant your field for six years and prune your vineyard for six years and gather its fruit. But in the seventh year, the sabbath of complete rest for the earth is a sabbath for the Lord. You neither cultivate your field nor prune your vineyard. What grows naturally from your crop, you do not reap and gather the clusters of your unpruned vine, for it is a year of rest for the land.”

Such instructions were given so that man would properly cherish and respect the precious soil that was given to us as a gift from God. As a kind and loving father, He has given us this land, the soil, and the ability to grow food to provide and care for us, and we must recognize this gift. Applying this to today, we must ask ourselves if the actions we take as humans are harming the very land we depend on for our needs.

Caring for creatures on Earth Day from a Christian perspective

The Bible also gives us instructions on how to care for the animals that God created. Proverbs 12:10 says, “The righteous come unto their beasts.” We can also see throughout the Bible that nature and the creatures that inhabit it are important to God. We can learn a lot from nature if we cherish it and learn from it. Job 12:7-10 explains, “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, they will tell you; Either talk to the earth, it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of these does not know that God’s hand has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all humanity.

Nature can provide us with metaphors, understanding, and revelations that come from the heart of God. The Bible also says that not even a sparrow falls from the sky without His permission. He sees the sparrows and he sees us. We should be compassionate toward all of God’s creation, not just parts of it.

Prayer for Earth Day from a Christian perspective:

Lord God,

Thank you for our planet. You knew and planned every aspect and detail necessary for the survival and flourishing of life on this planet. God, we want to honor the order you gave to Adam and Eve to guard this earth. Please be clear with us and give us an understanding of how we can do this and how we can honor you in the process. Don’t let us get so caught up in politics or human issues that we forget that ultimately, the most important thing on this earth is to work to bring about your kingdom here. Father, let your providence flow on earth as it is in heaven.
