Who is Jesus Christ and what does the Bible say about him?
Consider that claiming divinity for a human is a radical idea, yet Jesus Christ is the only leader of a world religion who has made such a claim—let alone attempting to prove it. How?
In his book ‘Mere Christianity,’ C.S. Lewis writes:
‘I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him [Jesus Christ]: “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.” That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic—on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg—or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice.
Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.’

Who is Jesus Christ?
The identity of Jesus Christ is a subject of much debate. Who did he claim to be? What does the Bible say about him? First, he is God in human form. In John 10:30, Jesus said, ‘I and the Father are one.’ This statement may not immediately convey that he is God, but the Jews’ reaction shows they understood it as such. They attempted to stone him for blasphemy because they believed he, a mere man, was claiming to be God. Jesus Christ never tried to clarify or correct their understanding of his words, indicating that he indeed claimed equality with God. He is the liberating human being, Jesus Christ.
In John 8:58, Jesus claimed to have always existed, a characteristic of God. He said, ‘Truly, I tell you, before Abraham was born, I am!’ This statement stirred hostile reactions from the Jews who again tried to stone him. By calling himself ‘I am,’ Jesus Christ used a name reserved for God, as seen in Exodus 3:14. While the Jews did not accept Jesus Christ’s identity as God in human form, they understood what he meant.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:1, 1:14)
Jesus Christ is the Son of God
So everyone said, ‘So you’re the Son of God?’ He said to them, ‘You are right that I am.’ (Luke 22:70)
Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.’ (Matthew 28:18)
Therefore, the Jews tried harder to kill him, for not only did he break the Sabbath, but he also said that God was his father and made himself equal with God. (John 5:17)
Again in John 10, Jesus’ enemies testify that he claimed to be God.
‘My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.’
The Jews again picked up stones to stone him. Jesus answered them, ‘I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?’ The Jews answered him, ‘We are not stoning you for any good work, but for blasphemy; and because you, being a man, make yourself God.’ (John 10:27-33)
Remember that claiming divinity for a human is a radical idea, yet Jesus Christ is the only leader of a world religion who has made such a claim—let alone attempting to prove it. How?
Jesus Christ lived a sinless life.
Since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, namely Jesus Christ the Son of God, let us hold firmly to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. (Hebrews 4:15)
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. (1 Peter 3:18)
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Accepting Jesus Christ is the only way to reach God.
‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ (John 14:6)
Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.’ (John 11:25)
When Jesus Christ saw their faith, he said, ‘Your sins are forgiven.’ The scribes and Pharisees began to think, ‘Who is this who speaks blasphemy? Who but God can forgive sins?’ (Luke 5:20)
For the desire of my Father is that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day. (John 6:40)
I tell you truly that whoever believes has eternal life. (John 6:47)
Jesus predicted his death and resurrection.
‘Jesus called twelve apostles to him and said, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him, spit on him, flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”‘ (Luke 18:31)
He said he would return from death.
“Matthew 24:27: “And when the lightning strikes from the east and shines until the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man… Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky and all the people of the earth will mourn and see the Son of Man with great power and glory over the clouds.”
Mark 14:61: “The high priest again asked him: Are you the blessed Son of God? Jesus said: I am and you are sitting on the right hand of the throne and coming to the clouds of the sky.”
Jesus Christ clearly knew that the lamb of God and the promised Christ of the Old Testament. He knew that he had to live a sinless life, regardless of the circumstances. When he returns, he will judge the sins of the world… except those who have already confessed their sins, accepted their fault and asked for mercy by believing in Christ. ”
