Bible Meaning of ‘Fear Not for I Am with You’ in Isaiah 41:10
I have heard that the phrase “fear not” is repeated 365 times in the Bible. This means we are reminded and taught every day not to be afraid. But honestly, that’s easier said than done.
When my children leave the house to go to school, a shadow of fear rises. Anxiety creeps up on me at doctor’s appointments, especially when I hear my little one has scoliosis.
I wake up at night with a jolt of dread at the thought of my oldest child living alone in a small studio apartment two states away. He whispers thoughts of human trafficking, car accidents and other things in my ear.
When I go out for a run, the fear of being hit by a car creeps up on me. I am also afraid of clowns, snakes, criticism and drowning. I’m afraid of making mistakes, saying the wrong thing, and I really don’t like my son to “surprise” me.
These are just a few of the things I fear. Fear is the enemy of God’s people. This four-letter word is at the core of the Christian life as it is paraded on the stage of our lives like a fashion show, in the shape and form of self-righteousness:
you are not good enough God cannot and will not save you. you’re stupid. He doesn’t need you to write this book. You are going to ruin it. God will take this child from you. You do not deserve this promotion. You will die from Corona.

The promise of Isaiah 41:10 in the Bible
Even this morning, when I woke up early to go to Jazerzaiz, fear crept into my mind and whispered that I might be attacked and killed. I rolled my eyes and thought how unlikely that was since I live in a small farming town in the middle of Nebraska.
But there were times when I was afraid, very afraid. Shaking and terrified, I could barely breathe as I whispered, “Jesus, I’m so scared. I am very afraid.”
As my body shook like a tree in a storm, God whispered back, “My daughter, do not be afraid, I am with you.” Then the rest of his words filled my soul and filled me with fear.
“Fear not, for I am with you; Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, and I will surely help you, and I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isaiah 10:41).
What does the Bible say about fear?
Isaiah 10:41 gives us several reasons not to be afraid. Here are five reasons:
1. For I am with you – Fear not, for I am with you.
2. I am your God – do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
3. I will give you strength
4. And of course I will help you
5. And with the right hand of my righteousness I hold you
God calls us and commands us not to be afraid. When we allow fear to overcome us, we take our eyes off Him and His promises. As we can see above, God gives us five reasons in just one part of the Bible.
The entire Bible is a love letter about how His love for us protects us and brings us home. He didn’t say we would never have problems.
He didn’t say we wouldn’t face a crisis, pandemic, or other unexpected news. He said the opposite, and then told us not to be afraid.
Isaiah 41:10 is a fundamental verse to stand on faith instead of fear. This verse says:
1. God is with me.
2. God is my God.
3. God strengthens me.
4. God is my helper.
5. God takes care of me.
in other words:
1. do not be afraid; God is with you.
2. do not be afraid; God is your God.
3. do not be afraid; God will strengthen you.
4. do not be afraid; God help you.
5. do not be afraid; God takes care of you.
If the key to fearlessness is believing that God is your God and that God is with you and that He will strengthen you, help you, and support you, then He has promised you that He will help you to be less afraid and to Trust him.
