freedom and slavery

The story of freedom and slavery: Then Jesus said to the Jews who had converted to him: “If you follow my teachings, you will be my disciples and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” »
They answered him: “We are Abraham’s children and we have never been slaves to anyone.” What do you mean by saying that you will be free? »
Jesus said to them: “Know for sure that anyone who sins is a slave to sin, and a slave does not always remain among the family, but a son always remains.” So if the boy sets you free, you will be truly free. I know that you are children of Abraham, but because my teachings have no place in your hearts, you want to kill me. I speak about what I have seen in the presence of the father, and you also do what you have learned from your father. »
They replied: Abraham is our father.

freedom and slavery

Jesus said to them: “If you were children of Abraham, you would do his works, but now you want to kill me, while I am the one who tells you the truth as I heard it from God.” Abraham did not do that. You are doing your father’s work. »
They told him: “We are not bastards, we have one father and that is God himself.” »
Jesus said to them: “If God were your father, you would love me; Because I have come from God and I am among you. I did not come on my own, but he sent me. Why don’t you understand my words? Because you can’t bear to hear such words. You are the children of your father, Iblis, and you fulfill your father’s wishes. He was a murderer from the beginning and he is unaware of the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he behaves according to his nature; Because he is a liar and the father of all lies. But when I tell you the truth, you don’t believe me. Which one of you can blame me? So if I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? Whoever is of God listens to God’s word. You do not listen to the word of God, because you are not of God. »
John 8

Analysis of freedom and slavery

This passage is from the Gospel of John (chapter 8, verses 37-47) where Jesus addresses the Jews who claim to be Abraham’s children but whose actions do not conform to Abraham’s actions. He tells them that if they really came from God, they would believe in him, because he is telling them the truth as God’s messenger.

This text basically emphasizes Jesus’ emphasis on the importance of the actions and beliefs put forth by the Jews. Jesus asks them to believe in him as God’s messenger and to do actions according to God’s will. He also emphasizes the importance of hearing and obeying the word of God, because this is a sign of faith and attribution to God. (Analysis of freedom and slavery by Ali Vahidi)
