New parents tend to worry about their little ones, especially at night. From the moment our babies leave the womb and are sheltered in our loving arms, we are filled with the desire to protect and hold their tiny bodies by our side forever. But we must remember that before our babies were in our arms, they were in God’s loving hands. New moms and dads are deprived of enough sleep for practical reasons, but if we put our trust in God, worry shouldn’t be one of them.
Dear God, thank you for forming (child’s name) in the womb. Although our hearts are overflowing with love for this child, we know that you love him more than we can imagine. You have placed your angels by this child’s side since birth and you even know the number of fluffy hairs on his head. You have planned well for the future of (child’s name) and have promised to complete the good work you have started. We trust in you, Lord. We love you and thank you for allowing us to be stewards of this precious gift. Please help us find comfort in your love, support and grace tonight. And help our baby fall into a deep sleep in your care. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Bedtime prayer for troubled children in Christianity
Anxiety can be overwhelming when we try to deal with it alone. And if you’re a parent dealing with your child’s anxious feelings, it’s even harder to manage.
In her article “4 Ways to Calm Your Troubled Child,” Amanda Idleman explains that “God commands us to be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:9). But we don’t need force to find courage; we just have to give up.” Let us walk in the hand of our Savior to find it.”
Here is a bedtime prayer to help manage anxiety by walking with God who is our comfort:
Heavenly God, thank you for being with us today and thank you for being the God who never sleeps as we sleep in our beds. You are always awake and watching over us.
As we relax our bodies, we ask You to help us relax our minds. You are Yahweh Shalom – which means Lord of Peace. You invite us to cast all our worries on You because You love us and want us to find peace in You.
So now we give you all the loud, scary, and disturbing thoughts that make us restless. And we pray that you will remind us of every promise we have learned from your word and help us to remember the good things you have given us to be thankful for.
But most of all, please help us to focus our thoughts on you, Lord – on your goodness, kindness and love for us – for you are our comfort.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition and thanksgiving, present your needs to God.” (Philippians 4:6).
“You keep those whose minds are fixed on you in complete peace, because they trust in you.” (Isaiah 26:3)
