The story about Christ: the workers in the vineyard
The story about Christ: The kingdom of heaven is like a vineyard owner who went out early one morning to hire workers for his vineyard and after they agreed on a daily wage, he sent them to work. He went out again at nine in the morning and saw other people standing idle in the market. He said to them: “Go and work in my vineyard and I will give you your right” and they also left. At noon, he went out again at three in the afternoon and hired some people as before. He went out an hour before sunset and saw another group standing there, he said to them: Why are you standing here idle all day? They said: Because no one has given us work, so he said to them: “Go and work in my vineyard.”
Vineyard workers
“When it was evening, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, call the workers and pay them all, start with those who came last and finally all to those who came first. Those who had started working an hour before sunset came to him and each of them received a full day’s wages. When it came to those who came first, they expected to receive more than others, but they were given as much as others. When the workers received their wages, they complained to the owner of the vineyard: These people, who came last of all, have only worked for one hour, and you have put them on the same level as us who have endured hard work all day in the scorching sun. . That owner turned to one of them and said: O friend, I have not wronged you. Didn’t you agree to work with this salary? So take your wages and go. I want to pay the last person as much as you. Do I not have the right to do what I want with my money? Why are you jealous of my generosity? Thus, the last will be first and the first will be last. »
