Then Peter asked Jesus to explain how it is possible for a person to eat something unclean and not become unclean.
Jesus said: “Don’t you also understand?! Don’t you understand that what a person eats enters his stomach, and then is excreted from the body? But bad words come from a bad heart and make the speaker impure. Because such things come out of a bad heart: evil thoughts, murder, adultery and illegitimate relationships, theft, lying and defaming others. Yes, these are the things that make a person impure, and not eating with wet hands! »
Matthew 15
This text is from the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew), chapter 15, verses 10-11. In this text, Jesus teaches his disciples that what makes a person unclean is not what enters a person’s body from the outside (such as food), but what comes out of his mouth (i.e. words and thoughts). This emphasis is on the importance of the inner cleanliness of a person and the lack of cleanliness only on the outside.
More precisely, Jesus said: “Nothing that enters the mouth from outside defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth defiles a person.” This justification of Jesus shows that for humans, internal and moral cleanliness is still important and not only external and physical cleanliness.
