What Does it Mean That Jesus Saves?

The phrase “Jesus saves” has a deep and fundamental meaning in Christianity. This phrase means that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth to save mankind from sin and death. With his death on the cross, he paid the price for the sins of mankind, and with his resurrection, he conquered death and opened the way to eternal salvation for us.

Faith in Jesus Christ as Savior is the key to salvation. This faith includes the following:

Belief that Christ is the Son of God: Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the perfect embodiment of God on earth. He is both God and man.
Belief that Christ died for our sins: Christians believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross in our place and paid the price for the sins of mankind.
Belief that Christ rose from the dead: Christians believe that Jesus Christ rose from his death after three days and conquered death.
Belief that Christ is the only way of salvation: Christians believe that eternal salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ.

Salvation in Jesus Christ brings many gifts, including:

Forgiveness of sins: Faith in Christ means complete forgiveness of our sins.
Eternal Life: Believers in Christ will attain eternal life with God in heaven after death.
Peace and Joy: True believers experience peace and joy in their lives that comes from their relationship with God.
Power to overcome sin: Believers in Jesus receive the power to overcome sin and live in obedience to God.
Hope in hardships: Believers in Jesus have hope in hardships and tribulations and know that God is with them.

Jesus saves, but why do we need salvation?

We live in a world where no one is exempt from struggling with sin (Psalms 14:1-3, Ecclesiastes 7:20, Romans 3:23). Because of the sinful nature of man, many times we have done things that we should not have done or we have not done things that we should have done (Romans 7:18-20). Our natural tendency is to follow our own ways, do what we think is right, and be the ruler of our own lives. It was because of sin that we had problems in trusting and obeying God. The existence of suffering, sickness, and evil that ultimately leads to death is a clear sign that we all desperately need a Savior.

Jesus Christ is the promised Messiah who came to this world to save sinners (Luke 19:10). Since we have all sinned against a holy God (Romans 3:23), we can never pay for our sins (past, present, and future) by our actions, which are limited and imperfect. This is why we all need Jesus Christ, the holy, perfect and infinite man who died in our place. His death is the only sacrifice acceptable to God and the only way to save us (John 14:6). Christ’s death and resurrection lead to the salvation of sinners, the sanctification of His saints, and the destruction of Satan, the origin of sin. Amazingly, we are not only saved from the bondage of sin, but beyond that: we are promised eternal life and security with Him (John 10:28).

Jesus saves, but how do we know this for sure?

The Bible, both Old and New Testaments, shows a unique similarity between Jehovah God and Christ as Savior. There are many witnesses to this revelation in the Bible; In fact, the truth of this issue is proven by the testimony of two or three witnesses (Deuteronomy 15:19, Matthew 16:18). In the Old Testament, the truth that only Jehovah is the Savior was revealed to Isaiah, Hosea, Moses and King David (Isaiah 43:11, 45:21-22; Hosea 13:4, Exodus 15:2, Psalms 18:2). In the New Testament, this truth was taught to Mary (Luke 2:11), Joseph (Matthew 1:21) and the Samaritan woman (John 4:42), as well as by Paul (Philippians 3:20), Peter (Acts 5:31). And John (1 John 4:14) declared that Christ is the Savior of the world.

However, isn’t it amazing that people from different backgrounds, occupations, and even ages/times have testified to the same conclusion about the divinity of Christ? Now, if God is the only Savior and Jesus is the Savior, then Christ must be God. There is no salvation except by Jehovah God (before Christ) and Jesus Christ (in the year of Jesus Christ). This shows the constancy of God’s sovereign will to save mankind throughout all generations (and can also explain that in ancient times, before the coming of Christ, salvation was given to those who believed in Jehovah God.) Moreover, it is noteworthy that Jesus himself declared that he would lay down his life and take it up again (John 10:11, 14-15, 17-18), thereby demonstrating his divine power as the creator of life.

Jesus saves, but who does he save?

Jesus saves everyone. Ultimately, salvation is a gift from God, through what Jesus Christ did on the cross (Romans 6:23). We are saved because God is merciful and gracious, so we should not rely on our own good works, but only on the work of Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). Think about it: If salvation could be earned by human effort, then how much effort would be sufficient to meet God’s standards of justice? Was it fair, for example, to people with physical and mental limitations or disabilities who could not do enough good deeds? Obviously, good deeds do not determine salvation.

Because of His great love, God has offered humanity a “simple” way to eternal life, and that is faith in Christ. Accepting God’s free gift requires simplicity of faith, yet often we are too proud to accept our need for salvation. The truth is that only Jesus has the power to save (Acts 4:12), so the first step we must take to accept his love is to accept our helplessness, that we cannot rely on anyone but Jesus for our salvation.

By accepting and believing in him, we become children of God (John 1:12) and no longer live under the slavery of sin and God’s wrath (Romans 8:1). This gift of God’s love extends even to our families (Acts 16:31), provided they truly believe in their hearts and confess that Christ is Lord and risen from the dead (Romans 10:9) – what a blessing! you’re wonderful!

Salvation has been provided for all people by the grace of God in Christ Jesus, which enables us to live patiently in the ways of God while we confidently hope for the glorious day of meeting our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Let us continue (Titus 2:11-13).
