Who is the Antichrist?

The phrase “anti-Christ” is found only in the first and second books of John in the New Testament and is used in the singular and plural form. This word represents anything that is hostile to God.

In 2 Thessalonians 2, Paul refers to this person as a “man of lawlessness.” He puts himself in the place of God’s law. That is why he is a lawless man. The Bible repeatedly mentions the appearance of such a person in the end times. Clearly, there have been many antichrists throughout history, but this one [biblical antichrist] will be the perfect embodiment of opposition to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

What the Bible Says About the Antichrist

1. In 2 Thessalonians, Paul describes him this way:

“He will oppose and exalt himself above all that is called or worshiped God, so that he will establish himself in the temple of God and declare that he is God.” (2 Thessalonians 2:4)

The Antichrist opposes all religions and exalts himself above anything called God.
Paul is not just saying that the antichrist is against God. He says the antichrist takes a stand against every god that exists. This means that he will stand against all religions.
Today we live in an increasingly secular minded society where many people think that religion is the main problem in the world.
“What causes all the trouble,” they say. What causes all the wars in the world? This is religion.”
To imagine that in our time someone would appear and say about Islam, Christianity, Hinduism and Judaism, “Spit on all your houses. What we need to get rid of is religion”, it is not difficult.

He exalts himself against every so-called god and supersedes all other religions. It’s not hard for me to imagine someone with such a claim having a massive following and people saying, “We’re dying to be freed from the shackles of our oppressive religions.” He considers himself superior to anything called God.

2. Antichrist replaces himself with the law of God and God himself.
“He establishes himself in the temple of God” (2 Thessalonians 2:4). In the Old Testament, what is the importance of the temple?

If you go to the holiest place in the temple, that’s where the 10 Commandments are – in the Ark of the Covenant. Antichrist puts himself in the place of God’s law.

It was also where the sacrifice was performed; So he puts himself in the place of the victim.

This is where God’s presence descended. Antichrist puts himself in the place of God.

This is the antichrist spirit: “I know the law; I am above the law; I define what is right and what is wrong, not God. I am above the victim. I put myself in God’s place.”
