Who Was Hannah in the Bible? Verses and Story

Henna is one of the important and interesting characters mentioned in the Bible. She is known as the mother of the prophet Samuel and the story of her life and ministry is mentioned in the first book of Samuel. In this article, we will examine the life and role of Hannah in the Bible and examine the influence she had on religious history.

Henna’s marriage and infertility

In the Old Testament, it was common for men to have more than one wife. Hina was one of the two women who was married to a man named Elqanah. It is not clear in the Bible which wife he married first, but Hannah was childless, while his other wife, פְּנָינָּה, had many children.

At that time, having children was an important part of the culture, however, Henna’s infertility was not important to Alqana. The Bible makes it clear how much he loved Hannah and how much he suffered from the abuse of another wife.

Translation of the verse:

Every year this man went up from his city to worship and sacrifice to God Almighty to Shiloh, where Eli’s two sons, Khafni and Phinehas, were priests of God. Whenever it was time to sacrifice Alqanah, he would give some of the meat to his wife פְּנינאָה and to all his sons and daughters. But he gave more to Hannah because he loved her, and God had closed her womb. Because God had closed Hina’s womb, her rival continued to provoke her to persecute her. This work continued year after year. Whenever Hina went to God’s house, her rival provoked her until she cried and did not eat. Her husband Elqana used to say to her: “Hina, why are you crying? why don’t you eat Why are you sad? Am I not dearer to you than ten sons? (1 Samuel 1:3-8)

important points:

Polygamy was common at that time.
Hina had no children and Elqana’s other wife had many children.
Alqana loved Henna.
Hina suffers from infertility and the provocations of another wife.

Henna’s prayer for having a son

Hannah is not the first barren woman in the Bible. Before him, Sarah, the wife of Abraham, Rafqa, the wife of Isaac, and Rachel, the wife of Jacob, also suffered infertility.

However, Henna’s reaction was significantly different from theirs. Hina did not retaliate to Pininah or Alqana in her pain and suffering. He took his pain to the only one who could relieve it, God, his God.

Prayer and vow of henna:

In her deep agony, Hina cried loudly and prayed to God. He made a vow and said: “God Almighty, if you only look at the misery of your servant and remember me and do not forget your servant and give him a son, then I will entrust him to God for his whole life and never a razor on his head.” He will not be laid. (1 Samuel 1:10-11)

Opposition to henna in the temple:

However, even in her sincere request, Hanna faces more opposition. The priest of the temple accuses him of being drunk and says to him: “How long are you going to stay drunk?” Put your wine aside.”

God’s answer to Henna’s prayer

After returning home from this visit in Shiloh, his prayer was answered the very next day.

Henna’s pregnancy:

“They got up early in the morning and worshiped before God, then they returned to their home in Ramah. Elqana slept with his wife Hana and God remembered him. So Hina became pregnant during that time and gave birth to a son. He called him Shmuel (Shmuel) and said: “Because I asked him from God.” (1 Samuel 1:19-20)

Fulfilling the vow:

The birth of Shmuel (Shmuel) is only part of the amazing story of Hana. Remember the vow he made before God in his initial request. Henna fully intended to keep it. From the time her son was born until he was weaned, Hannah loved Shmuel (Shmuel) and prepared her heart for the big day.

Dedicating Shmuel (Shmuel) to God:

After he was weaned, Hannah took him to the house of God in Shiloh, along with a three-year-old cow, an ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, despite his small size. After the cow was sacrificed, they brought the boy to Ali, and Hanna said to him, “Forgive me, my Lord. Indeed, I am the woman who stood beside you and prayed to God. I prayed for this child and God gave me what I asked for. So now I leave him to God. He will be entrusted to God for the rest of his life.” And they worshiped God there. (1 Samuel 1:24-28)

Conclusion:
Hanna is known as one of the most important and exemplary women in the Bible. His life and service show how faith, prayer and sacrifice can be used to respond to divine service and have profound effects on religious history. He is an inspiring example for all people who can progress in spiritual growth and service to others with faith and sincerity in God.
